Cinco De Mayo

Allow me to present an original poem I composed for today:

Cinco De Mayo

United the gathered in the warm morning sun
Underdogs, rebels, outnumbered two to one

They were fighting for liberty and knew the cost
So much blood would be shed, so many lives lost

General Zaragoza had a plan, and knew his enemy
Arrogantly they would fall to an ambush plain to see

The clanging of machetes, the rumble of the guns
They stood shoulder to shoulder, brothers...., fathers.... and sons

Againt all odds they stood to preserve freedom's light
And won the battle at Puebla because they never gave up the fight

So we take time to celebrate with music, dancing, and food
A fiesta of many colors to capture the mood

A celebration of culture and the spirit of that day
And what happened in 1862 on the 5th of May.
